Proverbs 3:9 Honour the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops.
Background: The Church has a loan. A big loan. $1.5 million to be precise. One of the ways we can all help pay down this loan is to give over and above our usual weekly giving once a year in the form of a lump sum payment. This works the same way as it does in our home loans. A lump sum payment has substantial benefits in reducing our ongoing interest payments.
Purpose: The Church will ‘gather’ the giving of its people one day a year on Annual Commitment Sunday to generate this lump sum payment. This year the day will take place on Sunday, 28 July.
Giving: We believe that giving is part of our worship to the Lord:
2 Corinthians 8:7 But just as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us—see that you also excel in this grace of giving.
How can I give? You can give money on the day in the usual way:

The Harvest: We will collate the funds and pledges given up until Sat, 3 Aug and report back to the Church on Sun, 4 Aug. Our goal in our first year of this harvest if to raise $50 000 towards our Church loan.
Thanksgiving: We will give honour to our Lord and give much praise during this special time of harvest for his Church.
Hebrews 13:16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
Proverbs 21:26 All day long he craves for more, but the righteous give without sparing.
Your giving can have a big impact on the Church loan:

The impact of just a single lump sum payment in a year can have large benefits in reducing the annual interest payments as well as those over the life of the loan. This is evident from the graph below:

2 Corinthians 9:7 Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
Can I save up? Sure can. We are letting you know well in advance so you can work at bringing your offering on the day.
Can I make a difference? Yes. With the accumulation of the offerings from over 500 members of our church we can made a big dent on this loan.
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, that you may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. (1 Peter 2:9)
